Motorcycle travelers Yuri Volkov and Kirill Drygin reached the northern “top” of the Earth on their motorcycles. As expected, their two-wheeled ‘horses’ came from China.
The motorcycle race on the frozen surface of the Arctic Ocean took place in August 2023. He was not stopped by the fact that summer is not considered the most suitable time for this type of travel: the ice is melting and is also covered with cracks and mounds, making movement very difficult. The motorcyclists from Murmansk were taken to the frozen water surface by the ship “Akademik Treshnikov”, on which they can ride on wheeled vehicles.
To conquer the Arctic latitudes, we chose the motocross bikes KAYO K6R KYB 250. They are equipped with a reliable and productive Zongshen 177MM-B engine. During the last modernization of the model in 2022, the frame was modified and the suspension updated. Now the chassis consists of components from the Japanese company KYB.
The cars were fitted with KENDA brand tires for the trip. The motorcycles also received heated steering wheels, carburetors and windshields. Just in case, the bikers brought along motorcycle tracks to mount on the rear suspension and skis to outfit the front fork. There was no need to use them: the equipment rolled perfectly on standard wheels to the North Pole.
During the eleven days of the race, three world records were set: our compatriots became the first motorcyclists to travel through the Arctic latitudes, they were the first in the world to reach the North Pole on motorcycles and at the same time completed the longest motorcycle race on ice in history.
