Passenger cars in Russia can rise sharply in price

According to forecasts of official dealers, the price increase for new passenger cars on the Russian market will continue and reach a total of 30% since the beginning of this year. This will be facilitated by both the fall in the ruble exchange rate and an increase in the recycling contribution.

New cars in dealer showrooms will continue to rise in price. Vice-president and executive director of the specialized association “Russian Car Dealers” (ROAD) Vyacheslav Zhigalov, in a conversation with our colleagues from RIA Novosti, predicted a 30 percent price increase by the end of the year.

— Unfortunately, we still expect prices to rise until the end of the year. An increase in the recycling fee and serious fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate have already led to an increase in the price of cars, and by the end of the year we can speak of an increase of up to 30% from January, he said.

In addition, almost 607,000 new passenger cars were sold in Russia in the eight months of this year – 41% more than in the same period in 2022. The recycling contribution for cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses in Russia has been indexed since August 1. The rate for the former increased on average 1.7 to 3.7 times, depending on engine size.
