The largest Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD will organize the assembly in Uzbekistan. The expected production volume of hybrid and fully electric models at the new location will reach 300,000 units per year.

As TASS reports, the Chinese conglomerate BYD will build an enterprise for the production of electric cars and hybrid cars in Uzbekistan. A corresponding agreement has already been signed with the Republican Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade. Representatives of the department noted that the joint venture of the Chinese company BYD Auto and the Uzbek Uzavtosanoat was called BYD Uzbekistan Factory.

“The planned production volume in the first and second phases of the investment project will amount to 50,000 units, and with the completion of the third phase, this number will reach 300,000 cars,” the ministry clarified.

BYD Uzbekistan Factory will be the Chinese leader’s first joint venture to produce electric vehicles outside China, Uzbek officials emphasize. The conglomerate currently has four production bases: in Shenzhen, Xi’an, Shanghai and Beijing.

In addition, the authorities of Uzbekistan and the Chinese company FAW Jiefang Automobile are considering the possibility of producing semi-trucks and trucks using alternative energy sources.
