Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with members of the government, instructed ministers to strengthen control over the situation with prices for gasoline and diesel. According to the president, the level of surcharges at gas stations should be monitored together with the FAS.
According to the Russian president’s website, the meeting discussed the rapid increase in fuel prices. Putin drew the government’s attention to the fact that this is not the first time this has happened, and the reason for the increase in retail prices is known: these are fluctuations in oil costs. However, despite the ban on petrol and diesel exports, retail prices continue to rise, he pointed out. “Measures have been taken, but prices are rising,” the president noted.
Putin ordered to establish “closer cooperation” with fuel companies so that they “understand their responsibility” – and to do so “faster”. According to the President, businessmen and authorities in this case pursue different goals: oil companies try to get maximum profit from the situation, so they send their products for export.
The head of state advised ministers to pay attention to the fertilizer industry, in which a successful compromise was found. In his opinion, similar measures could be applied to the oil industry. “It is clear that the oil industry has its own specific characteristics, but still there is not a big difference. But you just need to make these decisions in a timely manner, that’s all,” Putin concluded.
