That is, if in a quiet past life a significant part of motorized citizens refused even compulsory car insurance (according to some estimates, by 2022 at least a quarter of the country’s drivers were “refuseniks”), then in this case the number conscientious drivers has grown significantly. Compulsory third-party liability insurance for motor vehicles (MTPL) was issued twice as often. In January, according to a survey by technology company Inssmart, 38,800,000 policies had been registered, and by September 2023 there were 62,100,000.
And this despite the fact that, according to a survey by the Financial University, 80% of Russians are dissatisfied with insurance, and 20% are completely disappointed with it. And what should we actually be happy about if, as the AvtoVzglyad portal has written more than once, the OSAGO Institute in its current form has completely discredited itself: compensation payments today cover at best half the cost of repairs of a vehicle damaged in an accident, and in the worst case even God, even if it is only a quarter.
But apparently, more and more of our compatriots believe that if something happens, it would be better if the insurer compensated at least part of the damage to the person involved in the accident. So they take out policies, even though their price has risen from 6,800 rubles in January this year to 8,300 in September.
— A significant increase in the cost of mandatory third-party insurance is accompanied by changes in exchange rate differences (prices for spare parts and repairs have increased). Companies have the option to expand the tariff corridor since the Central Bank expanded it last year. The business has also become more competitive, as a result, companies expanded the pool policy and began to accept taxi drivers with large KBM. Many more policies are issued at the maximum rate. All this has led to an increase in the rate of mandatory motorcycle liability insurance,” said Arthur Kolomiets, founder and CEO of Inssmart, commenting on the situation.
