Yo-mobile 2.0, or why Atom’s electric car is coming to an inglorious end
The company Otkritie Auto, part of the VTB group, shared with the public a sociological study conducted by it, which clearly revealed the uncontrollable desire of Russian drivers to switch to electric vehicles. The AutoVzglyad portal, surprised by the obvious untimeliness of such a study, took a closer look at the results.

In the current difficult circumstances, it seems that the Russian authorities have more important issues to deal with than lobbying for an electric vehicle agenda from outside. However, no. Thirty years of obedient adherence to Western trends and a clearly formed belief that they are always right has not allowed our officials to escape the suffocating embrace of the ‘right’ concepts.

If you don’t want it, we will force you

In an interview with RG, the head of the Ministry of Industry and TradeDenis Manturov listed all the country’s achievements in this area: “In 2022, several important Russian projects were launched: the launch of the production of Evolute electric vehicles, the production of electric vehicles in Moskvich. This year they were joined by the company Electric Vehicles Manufacturing Rus with electric trucks based on UAZ Profi. In addition, the start of production of electric vehicles is expected at the plants of the AVTOTOR, Sollers and AVTOVAZ plants. Work continues on the launch of the E-Neva and Atom projects… By 2035, the share of electric vehicles in the Russian market could reach 25%.”

Now the share of electric cars in Russian sales is small: at the end of nine months it was only 1.1%. But anyone dependent on the powerful financial and economic bloc must still comply. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that Otkritie Bank’s automotive division has muddied a sociological study intended to substantiate the correctness of the chosen path.

According to a social survey, 25% of respondents indicated a strong desire to buy an electric train. What a wonderful coincidence with Mantura’s predictions! 40% are not yet ready to buy an electric car. But here the rule is: if you don’t want to, we will force you. It’s even more interesting: 82% are willing to spend less than 2 million rubles on an electric car – where did they see such prices? And only 24% of respondents are quite satisfied with the usual cars with a combustion engine. Finally the most important thing. The survey was conducted among 3,000 men and women in the country, whose population is estimated by Rosstat at 146,446,424 people. A very representative sample.

“Atomic” project

In this regard, it is impossible not to think of another recent information leak. It was made early this month by representatives of Kama JSC, which is developing Russia’s Atom electric car project. They told RIA Novosti that they had already collected 36,000 paid pre-orders for their creation.

In other words, in our God-saved country there were gullible simpletons in commercial quantities equivalent to the capable population of a city like Lobnya. They were willing to pay an advance of 7,000 rubles – not that much money, but for what? For a very compact city car, which only has dimensions in the public data. The start of Atom production is scheduled for 2025, but this is not certain. Technical features and price are generally unknown.

Financial support for the project is also a mystery. It is easy to calculate that JSC Kama has collected about 250 million from fans. For the car industry, such an amount is minuscule, car expert Sergei Burgazliev told Izvestia. With this money it is quite a job to buy robots for welding machines, for example. Investments of the head of KamAZ Sergei Kogogin and Ruben Vardanyan, who supported the project at the beginning – they invested $ 1 million each, cannot save the situation.

The number of people eager to support the domestic electricity industry seems somewhat exaggerated by the Kama press service, but it cannot be said that it was incredible. Here you can remember the brilliant Yo-mobile project, which received 60,000 pre-orders in the first two days of subscription, and about 200,000 requests in three months. Another thing is that we all remember the inglorious horse brainchild of Mikhail Prokhorov.
