In early August 2023, Georgia announced a complete ban on car exports to Russia. Anything imported by sea from the US and Europe, cleared through customs in Armenia and then “stated” in Georgia and sent to Russia, is now banned. America cheers, the Old World supports, Ukraine rejoices. The huge number of workshops in which citizens of the country, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders worked did not bother anyone. The main thing is information noise and opinions around the world. But they will tolerate their own people, not for the first time.
However, the truth, as usual, is far from political statements: the M4 Don highway (a direct road, let us not forget, from Tbilisi to Moscow) is filled with car transporters, which transport cars to the Mother Lake, and then throughout Russia . . New and used, modern and less modern. They have one thing in common: Georgian customs numbers. Wait a second! What about sanctions? After three months, despite the loud government ban, the cars continue to cross the border, receive customs documents and safely go on sale in the Russian Federation.
Experts say it has become a little more difficult (read: more expensive), but nothing fatal has changed. Money, as before, is sent via cryptocurrency, registration takes place among a large number of “interested people”, but it goes on and on, the cars cross the border. They drove and will continue to drive, because Georgians, who urgently need money from the car industry, will not cut off their own oxygen at the insistence of distant politicians, who are often not even located in Georgia itself.
Business is business, here the money decides, not someone else’s statements. The only area that is really no longer relevant is the American insurance auctions, where so-called play balls were bought, restored in Transcaucasia and brought to us for sale. It is now more profitable to carry out this maneuver in another direction: through Belarus. The Baltic “grandees” are also terrible only in words, but for real money they are willing to deviate a little from the general “party policy”. This has never happened before, and here it is again.
