The Public Chamber proposed a complete rewrite of the traffic rules

At the Road Traffic Russia conference there was a serious discussion about the future of traffic rules. Representatives of the Public Chamber emphasize that it is time to rewrite the document in its entirety instead of introducing another set of amendments, but the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Transport urge to refrain from radical decisions.

As Kommersant reports, a member of the Public Chamber, Alexander Kholodov, complained to Vladimir Putin about the constant changes to traffic rules – there have been more than 50 in recent years. He proposed developing a “completely new” document and refused to make any changes ‘on the spot’, after which the president sent it to discuss this idea with the head of the Ministry of Interior. The minister promised Kholodov to take the proposals into account, noting that “all changes must be verified.”

At the conference, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management spoke out against radical changes in traffic rules. Deputy Head of the State Road Safety Inspectorate Oleg Ponaryin recalled that the rules take into account “many years of experience in analyzing the traffic situation and the attempts of whole generations of traffic organizers to regulate conflict processes that arose during the movement.”

Deputy Director of the Ministry of State Policy on Automobile and Urban Passenger Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Vladimir Lugovenko, even stated that “there is the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic with the main postulates underlying our traffic rules, and we will not fundamentally change anything.”
