The Traffic Rules clearly state: before starting to drive, changing lanes, stopping, turning or turning, the driver must give a signal via the direction indicator. But the traffic rules say nothing about how often the turn signal should flash. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out how traffic police officers use this gap to fine the driver.
First a little theory. The rules require the driver to declare his intention to perform a maneuver well before the start, and to stop after it has been fully completed. However, many motorists completely ignore the requirements of the law, change lanes and make a U-turn without indicating their subsequent intentions on the roadway. For this, the Administrative Code punishes offenders with a fine of 500 rubles, which is clearly written in Russian in art. 12.14.
What if you blink only once or, say, three times? In addition, almost all modern cars duplicate the signal three times when you lightly press the turn signal lever on the steering wheel. That is why motorists often “blink” in this way, believing that this is enough to inform other road users. Yes, there are no separate penalties for single or triple flashing in the Code for Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. Because in fact nothing is said about it in the traffic rules, neither in the police regulations, nor in the GOSTs.
However, brave traffic police officers can easily bring such a driver to justice, as the limited flashing turn signal light worked before the maneuver was completed. In other words: the light signal went out prematurely, which has direct consequences for road safety. There has been a violation of Article 8.1 of the traffic rules. And you already know how high the fine is.
Meanwhile, if the turn signals fail, the driver has the right to indicate the direction with his hand. This is clearly stated in Article 8 of the Rules. Granted, with the proviso that “when performing a maneuver there should be no danger to the movement, nor to interference of the participants.” However, it is better not to take the risk of taking the car to a technical center to have the problem resolved. By the way, this will also help avoid fines from the traffic police.
