The government’s decision to lift the ban on gasoline exports from Russia will not affect the domestic fuel market. Experts do not rule out a short-term increase in stock market prices, but retail prices at gas stations will certainly not fall as a result.
According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the share of gasoline exported from our country, unlike diesel fuel, has always been insignificant: only 10-14% of total production volumes or 4-6 million tons per year.
In the nine months of 2023, 4.9 million tons were sent abroad, and in the remaining six weeks until the end of the year, the delivery volume will increase to six million tons at best. For comparison: in 2022, Russia produced more than 84 million tons of diesel fuel, of which more than 50% was exported.
The main factor in rising gasoline prices in our country has always been domestic demand. The peak traditionally occurs during the holiday season – from early summer to mid-October. Prices on the exchange have already fallen to spring levels, and there is no incentive to seriously increase them, experts say.
And although prices at gas stations are closely monitored by the Federal Antimonopoly Service, their growth continues to outpace inflation.
