In 1930, two German observers Arnold Schwassmann and Arno Arthur Wachmann discovered and named the commentary 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, which orbited the Sun every 5.4 years. In the late 1970s, scientists noticed that the comet had become about 600 times brighter, making it possible to observe with the naked eye as it passed.

The result of the change was the fragmentation of the comment, which began to fall apart into countless pieces and has continued to fragment ever since. Since there are many fragments, it is also difficult to say with certainty whether it will be possible to observe a meteor shower on days other than May 31st. “Due to some uncertainty in the orbital position of other fragments of Comet SW3, we recommend observations between May 28 and June 1, always at dawn, with the opportunity to see many meteors coming from a NW direction close to the Tau-Herculides radiant”, – emphasized the coordinator of EXOSS.
