Volkswagen is against electric cars because common sense is not about electric cars

An epidemic suddenly broke out in Russia: motorists began to throw away their electric vehicles en masse. In the Internet service Avito, a sharp increase in the number of advertisements for the sale of the infamous “new mobility products” was noted. However, the AvtoVzglyad portal doubted that common sense could prevail over mass propaganda in at least one country.
Avito experts have noted a sharp increase in the number of advertisements for the sale of electric vehicles over the past year. For example, in October, 533 users wanted to sell their Evolute i-JOY, 446 owners agreed to part with the Hongqi E-HS9, and 327 people offered the Moskvich 3e for sale. At the same time, the average number of contacts according to the advertisement was a maximum of 6.6 and usually fluctuated around 2.5.
Lack of logic
The numbers are quite impressive considering that Russia has not yet been fully infected by the Western hysteria about “environmentally friendly” transport. Although the market for new electric vehicles has grown significantly, it still represents a paltry 1.5% of total car sales in Russia. During the entire month of October, only 1,713 new ‘electric trains’ were registered in Russia.
A number of experts consider this trend as a reconfiguration of the market in favor of the ‘Chinese’, who offer a wide choice of electric cars. The explanation is somewhat vague and doesn’t explain anything at all, since it’s the Middle Kingdom cars that sellers are trying to sell. However, it is quite consistent with the chaos that has reigned in the automotive industry in recent years.
An example of the complete lack of logic in everything related to “new mobility” was again the VAG group, which experienced major problems in marketing its products. As Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes, VW cannot sell its already produced electric vehicles. In the first five months of this year, the company delivered 97,000 fully electric cars of various models to the European market, of which only 73,000 were sold. It’s not clear what to do with the rest.
The cognitive dissonance
Just a few days ago, a brilliant example of cognitive dissonance was shown by the head of Volkswagen, Thomas Schaefer, who was upset by the extremely unpleasant situation for his care. In a bitter tone, he told the distinguished audience that the German automaker was developing a cost-cutting plan for the VW brand, the first step in an effort to improve the efficiency of the transition to… electric vehicles.
“Due to many of our pre-existing structures, processes and high costs, we are no longer competitive as the Volkswagen brand,” Schäfer told an employee meeting in Wolfsburg. Since this gentleman is known as an uncompromising and resilient fighter for ‘new mobility’, it is not difficult to guess which units he will destroy. Naturally, outdated cars with combustion engines will go under the knife.
Schaefer was supported by board member Gunnar Kilian, responsible for personnel policy: “We must finally show enough courage and honesty to throw overboard what is duplicated within the company or is simply ballast that we do not need for good results,” said Kilian. Here too, there is no doubt about what he considers ballast.
And in anticipation of the triumph of the electric age, Volkswagen is reducing production of electric vehicles, which are frankly uncompetitive compared to traditional cars. They only survive thanks to colossal government subsidies. What the reduction – and not even the abolition – of subsidies in Germany has led to is clear from the tossing and turning of the VAG management.
