The Ministry of Industry and Trade has published draft amendments to the Government Decree of May 12, 2022. The changes imply additional requirements for equipping cars produced in Russian factories in the field of passive safety.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in connection with the continued pressure on sanctions from unfriendly countries and in order to ensure stable operation of the domestic automotive industry, the ministry has decided to extend the validity of the resolution until December 31. 2024.
From February 1, 2024, the requirements will “to a much greater extent”, as the ministry notes, comply with technical regulations: all vehicles produced on the territory of the Russian Federation must not be lower than the third environmental class.
Until December 31, 2024, it is allowed not to equip cars with a stabilization system (ESP), but ABS is still mandatory. We would like to remind you that production of the anti-lock braking system has already started at the facilities of the Itelma Research and Production Enterprise in Kostroma.
It is proposed to make the requirement to equip passive safety systems mandatory from 2025. In addition, the new rules may also apply to cars produced in Belarus and imported into the Russian Federation.
