As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the General Director of ERA-GLONASS Alexey Raikevich, the devices will gain control over Russians’ cars as early as 2024. “We will launch a new service based on the State Information System, which, with the consent of the car owner, will monitor a personal vehicle and help find a stolen car. To obtain such a function, you just need to upgrade the firmware of the emergency call equipment in vehicles without changing the hardware,” he said.
Raikevich noted that the company receives requests for help finding stolen cars every day. However, the basic functionality of the ERA-GLONASS emergency notification does not provide this option. “Given the high demand, we have developed a new service that will continue the range of services that do not require the installation of additional equipment if there is an SOS button in the car,” he explains.
Raikevich also emphasized that the SOS button is “deeply integrated,” and the possibility of it being quickly disabled by hijackers has been ruled out. In addition, the system will automatically report attempts to block the button.
