In Russia, cars are stolen 15% more often

Over the past year, thefts across the country have increased by 15%, and in Moscow, cars have been stolen three times more often than in the past. The Capital Region was responsible for approximately 51% of all car thefts in Russia in 2023.

As Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports, citing data from the VSK insurance house, the Samara region ranks second after the capital region – and by a huge margin – with 7% of thefts.

The most favorite brands of criminals are still Hyundai (31%) and Kia (18%), followed by LADA (11%) and Mitsubishi (4%), and then the “Chinese” appeared for the first time in the ranking – Chery and Exeed (4%). KamAZ debuted on the same line (4%) and displaced Renault from the list.

In the 2023 model ranking – Hyundai Santa Fe (13%), Kia K5 (11%), Hyundai Tucson and Palisade (8 each), LADA Granta (7%). In the segment of premium models, the leader is Mercedes-Benz GLE, and among the “Chinese” models there are Chery Tiggo and Exeed TXL. Actually, the results are quite expected: Hyundai and Kia were sales leaders until 2022, and now they need spare parts, and “heavenly” cars today are breaking records for attracting buyers.

We add that the largest number of thefts this year were recorded in February (11%), May (18%), August and September (13% each).
