The former Volkswagen factory at the Grabtsevo industrial park in the Kaluga region will only start up at the end of this year, as regional authorities previously promised.
In an interview with Kaluga TV and radio company Nika TV, the region’s governor Vladislav Shapsha said that previous plans to build the factory, which is now owned by the AGR company, are no longer relevant. Why remains a mystery for now.
“I simply cannot announce these ongoing negotiations and the results we have received. Because, first of all, this is a commercial secret, and secondly, because we simply see how competitors hang on our every word and immediately run to put a spoke in our wheels,” the official said.
However, he emphasized that the factory will still restart. “What we haven’t done by the end of this year, we will do early next year. And everything will develop as it should,” Shapsha promised.
He did not provide specific dates. Meanwhile, the former Volkswagen factory is in a shutdown mode – this has been extended until the end of February 2024.
