New cars have increased in price and used cars are not far behind. Do we stick to ourselves? Well, then it would be necessary to make a body, put the finishing touches so that the “swallow” would shine again. However, a little scrutiny of supply suggests that bringing the ‘forge’ to zero today will also cost a fortune.

A scratch on the bumper, a small chip from a stone on the hood and a ‘trolley mark’ can be found on almost every car. And it doesn’t matter at all how old he is – the operation in Russia quickly leaves a “seal of sadness” on every car. In the past, you could wait a while, give up or take out a loan, after which the fate of painting and polishing was solemnly passed on to the next owner and a completely new car left the dealer. Now most compatriots do not have such an opportunity.

In three out of four cases, the existing vehicle is therefore assessed as requiring further attention, after which investments are made in extending its operation. Simply put, they start investing money in the car and not just changing the oil and filters. In the long list of upcoming repairs, the bodywork stands out: it takes a long time, it is difficult, it is expensive. Terribly.

Not only have prices for bodywork risen sharply due to the increased appetite of craftsmen and gas station owners: material costs have soared. Especially if we are talking about high-quality and proven compositions, and not about nameless new banks presented by someone from nowhere. If we remember the “best” (read: pre-pandemic) years, then yesterday’s “stoshka” has turned into at least three hundred “wooden” years. Does this affect the price of the work? Certainly.

For high-quality restoration procedures, you will need acid and acrylic primers, putty, at least finishing, developing powder, hardeners and solvents, paint and varnish. Do not forget to prepare the surface for applying a new layer: washing off the paint, at least four types of sandpaper, as well as spatulas and other disposable ingredients. After painting, it would be necessary to polish: another “sandpaper”, two sponges, paste and a working sander. But the work itself is not on the list!

Do you know how much it costs to put two bottles of paint in a spray can, with matching accessories? One and a half thousand rubles. Priming? Five hundred for the acid, three for the acrylic. Only skins and a set of spatulas cost 500 – 700 rubles, and a can of putty, the smallest, but of a decent brand and complete with a hardener – 550. Development – 450, varnish, two cans – 600 – 1000. For one hundred and fifty rubles on the market. They will sell the world’s best 3M polish by weight.

In total we have five thousand “wooden” materials, if you do it yourself. In the garage. With all its consequences. Fifteen thousand for a share doesn’t seem like much of a robbery anymore, does it?
