The majority of Russians supported the expansion of parallel imports of cars

The majority of Russians – namely 60% of respondents – believe that parallel imports of cars should be supported at the state level. Another 8% take the opposite view: they say the import of cars that bypass official dealers should be restricted. And the remaining 32% found it difficult to answer.

According to the results of a survey by the VTB Group, only 35% of drivers surveyed are familiar with the concept of “parallel importing”, and 39% have only heard of it superficially. 21% of respondents know nothing at all about such a mechanism; the rest found it difficult to answer clearly.

Those who support parallel imports usually justify this by saying that “everyone has the right to choose a vehicle” and “this is the only way to buy quality cars.” At the same time, 39% of them wanted the supply of mainly Japanese cars to be established or expanded through such a channel, 28% want more European cars, 24% are in favor of Korean transport, the rest are for “Americans”.

Those who are against parallel imports argue that this is due to the need to develop the domestic car industry, and not to buy foreign cars abroad. Moreover, they believe that this is the way expensive premium cars are imported, while mass models, in which the majority are interested, are sold through official channels.
