Why Iranian cars won’t reach Russia
Information has again appeared on the Internet that our market is waiting for Iranian cars, which should occupy a budget niche. Persian cars are indeed relatively cheap, and in Russia these are the cars that are now very scarce. But the AutoVzglyad portal is not optimistic about this.

At the end of last year, the hope that the Chinese would come and solve everything here became unrealistic. The Chinese really came, but they decided everything exclusively in their favor. The result was an unprecedented rise in car prices, which was also greatly facilitated by the “skillful” actions of the domestic financial departments, which maniacally fought inflation and regularly neglected other market aspects.

Who will save us?

Well, the search for saviors of the domestic car market continues. Someone has to solve the price problem for us and saturate the budget segment, if not with decent cars, then at least with their healthy similarity. Thirsty for redemption, Russian officials and no less Russian experts will, no, no, look to the Middle East, where Iran, unbroken by Western sanctions, rises like a cliff between the shores of the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf.

A highly respected telegram channel quoted the words of Alexey Podshchekoldin, chairman of the Russian Association of Automobile Dealers, on this issue. The head of ROAD is reported to have said that Iranian carmakers have significant advantages in the Russian market.

These include cheap and fast logistics across the Caspian Sea, the fact that Iran Khodro has its own automatic transmission, and the absence of sanctions risks in mutual payments between our countries. According to Mr Podshchekoldin, Iranian companies could gain a foothold in our market if they organized local production of their cars.

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t find the author’s words above anywhere. Maybe I didn’t look properly. But even if they were said, there is no reason to take them as an acknowledgment of Iran’s role as a potential savior. Yes, there are logistical advantages. Yes, its own automatic transmission is super cool. Yes, local production is always good.

Do we need it?

At the end of last year, Alexey Gennadievich very clearly expressed his position on this in a conversation with aif.ru: “The entire capacity of Iranian production is about 300,000 cars per year, and demand in the country is about the same. Therefore, they will be able to supply only 20-50,000 cars to Russia… They may be better than our models, but the buyer is more likely to take a three-year-old Korean foreign car than a new Iranian car. ” Exhausting.

And the Iranian companies themselves are not coming to us en masse. The Chinese wanted to come to us – and they are here. How many ‘Iranians’ have you seen on the roads? Personally, I haven’t seen it at all. On the contrary: even promising cooperation plans are slowly being phased out or are extremely reluctant. So in March last year, Best Motors was said to import SAIPA Saina and Shahin sedans, as well as Quik hatchbacks, to Russia. However, the official distributor of the Iranian car brand Best Motors is currently in the process of liquidation. Due to changed economic conditions (read recycling costs and loan rates), the project became unprofitable.

Iran Khodro does not give up hope of conquering our market, but there is no question of any Napoleonic scale. This is what the company’s general director, Mehdi Khatibi, told Gazeta.ru: “By the end of this year we will export about two thousand Tara and Dena cars to the Russian market.” Let us remind you that the Tara is built on the basis of the Peugeot 301 and the Dena model is based on the French Peugeot 405. Do we need it?
