Toyota suspended deliveries of 10 models due to falsification of engine data

Toyota has announced a temporary halt to the production and supply of three diesel engines that power a dozen Japanese models. The reason, as in the case of the famous ‘dieselgate’ of the Volkswagen group, is also software.

According to Toyota’s press service, production of diesel engines and thus the supply of cars equipped with them will be frozen until further notice due to falsification of power data. Internal investigations have revealed that certification testing used an engine control unit with software that differs from that used in mass production. As a result, the measurement results turned out to be incorrect: the characteristics were smoother and with fewer deviations in the measurement values.

Ten Toyota models with the above-mentioned engines are sold around the world, the company noted, without specifying their list. The company deeply apologized to customers who now have to wait longer for their cars, but added that it will soon provide the authorities with a detailed explanation of this situation and start taking appropriate measures, including testing in the presence of independent specialists.
