MG, the recently successful Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is within 12 months has announced that it will use solid-state batteries in its electric vehicles. Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Vice President of Passenger Vehicles Yu Jingminhas announced that the new solid-state battery technology will soon be introduced in an MG model.
Solid-state batteries compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries higher energy densityoffers faster charging times and longer life. SAIC claims that this new technology will reduce costs by up to 30% in the long term and increase MG’s competitiveness in the electric vehicle market. The company will offer solid-state batteries much earlier than planned.
