The latest news from Togliatti arouses moderate optimism: AVTOVAZ has successfully restarted production of the Grnta and Niva Legend models and is now preparing to return the Largus family to the assembly line. At the same time, according to the words of the head of the flagship of the Russian auto industry, the auto giant is now engaged not only in current tasks, but also in promising developments.

As the head of AVTOVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, rightly noted, now only B-class cars are produced under the LADA brand. However, the company’s management is studying the possibility of releasing a larger car of the next class “C” in seniority. That is, challenging cars like Kia Ceed and Hyundai Elantra.

– In the long term, we plan to use a completely new Russian platform. Perhaps even a slightly higher class than that in which AvtoVAZ operates today – that is, segment “B”. We will also take steps towards Class C,” said Mr Sokolov.

The intention is to involve NAMI engineers in the design of new products. However, according to the manager, the creation of future models will require serious investments, which should be generous not only for the concern, but also for its suppliers.

It is worth noting that until 2009 Togliatti worked on a golf class car, which had the working title “Project C”. However, with the arrival of the Renault group at the plant, the project was closed. However, a few developments later formed the basis of LADA Vesta.

Meanwhile, early next year, the “Russian brand No. 1” planned to please fans with a completely new model. At the factory, the novelty was called “Grant-2”, but they emphasized that this is a completely different car built on the platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance.

Now, after Renault’s departure from Russia, VAZ will have to seriously reformat the original idea. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” found out the details at what stage the project is now.
