CASCO policies can get much cheaper

CMTPL and CASCO ended the first half of the year in much the same way, with both segments showing positive momentum. But if, according to experts, the “avtocitizenka” continues to grow, then sales of “voluntary” policies will drop sharply by the end of the year. And to prevent this, to reduce losses, insurers want to promote affordable products.

According to Kommersant, the volume of CASCO premiums increased by 11-30% in January-June, depending on the insurance company. At the same time, sales of OSAGO policies grew by 15%, a comparable result. However, towards the end of the year, segment dynamics will diverge: compulsory insurance will increase by 15-20% compared to the 2021 result, while voluntary insurance, on the other hand, will lose the same 10-20%.

Experts explain this by the fact that CASCO mainly insures new and credit cars. And as new car sales are falling sharply, as are the number of loans granted for vehicle purchases, voluntary insurance will also be in the red. In addition, due to the increase in the price of spare parts and services of repair shops, the compensation volume has increased significantly – the segment is becoming unprofitable for insurers.

To salvage the situation, the players plan to focus on developing and promoting affordable products that will attract a different audience – not just new and credit car owners. For example, “clipped” policies that cover certain risks, “CASCO per minute” (you only pay when you drive), special programs for cars purchased through Trade In.

But coming back to the question of the price increase of anything and everything, when buying CASCO you still should not count on significant savings and tangible benefits. After all, as the size of the reimbursements has grown and before discounts are suspended, insurers will have to raise prices sharply.
