Now finally: MAN and Scania leave Russia

The automakers who decided to finally say goodbye to the “promising” Russian market were joined by two “freight” companies – MAN and Scania. The intention of automakers to resell their Russian assets was officially announced by representatives of Traton, the freight division of Volkswagen, which includes these brands.

MAN and Scania companies ceased their activities in our country in the spring, when the European Union began to impose sanctions on Russia. They not only stopped deliveries of cars from abroad, but also “frozen” their joint plant in St. Petersburg. According to Traton, the entire story has cost the group 113 million euros in additional costs.

After assessing possible scenarios for the development of the event, Traton decided to resell the Russian assets of MAN and Scania to local entrepreneurs, but the group has not yet said who exactly. It is only known that the deals will close in the first quarter of next year. At the same time, according to preliminary estimates, Traton will lose another 550 million euros.

We add that, according to the analytical agency Avtostat, Scania entered the TOP-3 of the most popular truck manufacturers at the end of 2021, losing only to KamAZ and GAZ. Last year, the Swedes sold 7,124 cars in Russia, increasing their market share to 7.3%. MAN was only eighth in the ranking: 4403 vehicles sold and a share of 4.5%.
