More recently, Volkswagen management announced grand plans to build a new factory for the production of electric trains in Wolfsburg. More than 2 billion euros have been allocated for the implementation of the project. Moreover, it was about entering a fundamentally different level of technology. But, as the AvtoVzglyad portal found out, in the new reality the Germans cannot pull the already dubious “green” electric future.
The fact is that the Trinity electric car project meant not only a symbiosis of innovative modular platforms – the massive MEB from VW and the premium PPE from Audi and Porsche. The architecture of the car was completely changed, turning it into a configurable gadget with elements of artificial intelligence and the possibility of autonomous driving.
But it seems that the “green” strategy has become an unbearable burden for the Western auto industry. Faced with an energy crisis and a deteriorating economic situation, Volkswagen has to think only about survival, according to Reuters. That is why all construction plans are frozen indefinitely. And apparently this is just the beginning.
Most likely, both Volkswagen and Audi will continue to look for ways to reduce operating costs by reducing their global presence, including in the Russian market.
