Why KamAZ took on the production of cars

KamAZ announced an unbearable desire to enter the electric passenger car market with all its might. The first steps in this direction were taken with the launch of the Kama electric car project, which has recently evolved into Atom. Then KamAZ entered the Moskvitch project, which gave it access to government funding and began to develop its own platform of “green” cars with the help of budget funds. The AvtoVzglyad portal became interested in the unexpected decision of the trucking giant.

According to the head of KamAZ PJSC Sergey Kogogin, it is not about the emergence of new structural departments within the company, but about a new type of company. It can be concluded that KamAZ is thinking about active expansion in the almost collapsed Russian passenger car market.

However, we remember that previously KamAZ did not very successfully promote its bright brainchild “Kama”, and apparently, because of this, the project was recently renamed. It is also possible that the introduction of Chelny residents to the Moskvich plant in Moscow was just aimed at starting the development of a full-fledged purely Russian electric vehicle precisely at the expense of budget money.

In addition, taking into account the general support of the state for environmentally friendly mobility, both in terms of design and distribution, KamAZ has additional opportunities to reduce its own financial costs.
