The mystery of Evolute: where the cars that have already left the assembly line disappear
The crystal plans of domestic automakers, it seems, are beginning to be shattered, faced with a rock-hard reality. Not knowing how to properly approach the production of cars with classic engines, they tried to overcome the systemic crisis with statements about the production of advanced electric cars. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” found out what is really happening with a fashion trend that is trying to take root in our country.

Every understandable action, as a rule, is accompanied by some facts, which somehow seep into the masses even through the most stringent security system. Therefore, it is very strange that, apart from empty rhetoric, we have no facts about debugging the production line for e-Largus, which is about to be born in commercial quantities.

Nothing has been heard about the equipment tuning of the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad (except for the vague releases about the strange Yantar project), which was actually supposed to switch completely to electric car production. It is quite difficult to assess what is really happening in the domestic car market right now. After the collapse, the statistics also fell into a state of complete chaos.

The press releases of the once authoritative Committee of Automobile Manufacturers AEB (Association of European Companies) are increasingly reminiscent of that age-old humorous miniature by Vinokur and Oganezov: “We play on this side, we don’t play on this side. And here the stain is greasy – I wrapped the fish. Monthly data does not include sales information for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chery, and Exeed. Okay, Germans and Americans, there is little question of them – they left the country anyway. But the absence of one of the leading Chery brands in the tables makes a serious analysis of the situation in the car market impossible.

We have to rely on the reports of the Avtostat agency, which are based on the database of JSC “PPK” and do not correlate well with the information provided by the same AEB. In general, the situation is reminiscent of the early 2000s, when someone produced something, someone imported something, someone resold something, but the general picture did not develop and could not develop.

Nevertheless, even with just the above resources at hand, some conclusions can be drawn. First, what is behind the triumphant report that 2,090 new electric vehicles were purchased in Russia from January to October this year, which is 34% more than in 10 months of 2021? Growth is, of course, impressive, but only if we consider it in isolation from reality.

In fact, this “record number” of electric vehicles is less than half a percent of total cars sold – a meager figure even in our shrinking market. And the leader, contrary to expectations, is not a domestic startup at all, but the infamous Tesla, which is still more or less imported by enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, even though startups don’t work, they are trumpeting themselves with might and main. Some time ago, another sensation was the new Russian electric brand Evolute, which announced the start of production of the i-Pro model in September. The Chinese prototype is called the Dongfeng Aeolus E70, and we know it from the Nissan Almera model, with which the Chinese have a common ancestor – the 2005 Nissan Sylphy. Evolute representatives assure that they have formed a fairly solid package of orders from large players in the business market, and in the first place from taxis.

According to TASS, representatives of the Motorinvest plant in the Lipetsk region reported the following in early November: “There is already an electric car plant in the Krasninsky district. More than 380 cars were produced there, and further production will only grow and grow.” Let’s assume that, according to the guarantees of the press service of the plant, 380 cars were produced in about a month and a half. With the announced increase in production in November, at least 250 cars should have rolled off the assembly line, which would enable Evolute to enter the TOP-25 of both AEB and Avtostat.

It is probably needless to say that such a brand does not appear in both lists. When asked how this could happen, the brand’s press office said they hadn’t really started working with AEB yet and as for the electronic OB vans, there are already hundreds of them. It is strange that Avtostat, which likes to track the slightest positive changes in electric vehicle sales, missed this important fact.
