Why is it important to know which terminal to remove from the battery first?
In the cold, a large number of cars have problems with the battery. The most common: oxides on the terminals or discharge. Therefore, it is important to understand the order in which to remove the battery “positive” and “ground” mounting clips so that it is safe for electricians. The AvtoVzglyad portal gives its advice.

First of all, remember that in most modern cars, disconnecting the battery can lead to serious problems. Thus, the electronics of some premium segment sedans view such actions as attempted theft and unauthorized interference. As a result, the engine control unit is blocked and can only be “revived” by an authorized dealer using special “software”. For example, Audi and VW advise against touching the terminals of the on-board network yourself.

It’s easier with cheap foreign cars, but there are still difficulties. They reset the RAM data and radio settings. You must remember this. Suppose we have a cheap used “iron horse”, from which the battery must be removed, because it is completely “bare” and the terminals are oxidized. How to go further?

You can unscrew any “clamp” – there is no damage. In real life, however, you must first dismantle the negative wire. The explanation is simple: a metal key conducts electricity very well. By accidentally attaching it to the body, we get a short circuit. At the same time, an electric shock “captures” both a person and the electronic “brain” of a car, with all the ensuing consequences. In the worst case, the ECU will burn out.

And if the “minus” is turned off, then nothing terrible will happen. Place a plastic cap over the battery terminal for additional protection. Then proceed to clean the terminals or replace the battery.

The battery is installed in reverse order. First of all, you need to fix the “charger” with standard fasteners so that it does not crawl around the site during movements and maneuvers. Next, you need to fix the “plus” and tighten the nut tightly with a wrench. Then we do the same manipulations with the “minus” and start the engine. Then we “train” the power windows, restore the radio settings and hit the road.
