In the 80s, then in the Soviet Union, an acute shortage of cars was constantly observed. It was possible to buy a car only after years of standing in line and having positive qualities from the workplace. But after the acquisition, the “Swallow” immediately increased in price by a third and did not become cheaper, as it is now. Since then, of course, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge, a lot has changed. And, most importantly, it continues to change rapidly.
Who would have thought that used cars would increase in price so much by the end of 2022. And according to the analysis bureau “AUTOSTAT”, their prices are “heavier” by more than a third. The strongest increase occurred in the spring, when the country encountered problems with the production and delivery of new cars from abroad. And in general it was not at all clear what to expect.
The cost of used cars under 3 years old rose the most – they rose by 39%. First, analysts say this is due to the average car ownership period starting to increase. That is, the supply on the market has decreased, creating the same shortage that we know from the times of the USSR – hence the rise in prices.
It just needs to be added that the used car market overall is down 20% to 5 million units at the end of the year. For comparison, sales of new cars in Russia collapsed by 60% – to 666,000 cars sold.
