Access Denied: Bosch finally put an end to the Russian market
The German company Bosch has been working in the Russian market for a long time and confidently, supplying its developments and spare parts to the conveyor and taking an active part in the service and maintenance of cars after they leave the factory gates. It seems that 2022 has become the last year for mutually beneficial cooperation. How this will backfire on domestic car owners, the AvtoVzglyad portal clarified.

Truly, the year 2022 was unique and unparalleled for all of Russia. There has never been anything close to the flurry of sanctions and restrictions that fell on our heads after February 24, in modern or very ancient history. There is not even anyone to talk to. The leader in terms of the number of sanctions received, Russia with all its people, according to the idea of the liberal and democratic world community, would fall into pieces.

They didn’t fall apart, but they didn’t continue either. One of the reasons is the forced abandonment of known and long-established technologies, the consequences of which we have yet to learn to avoid. For example, the extremely difficult situation with the products of the German technology giant Bosch. Indeed, in addition to the usual spare parts, tools and other belongings, which practically flooded our homes and cars, Bosch supplied a huge amount of equipment to domestic gas stations: diagnostic complexes and services.

Of course, they needed regular updates, which they previously received under the concluded agreement. Free of course. In December, however, despite the signed papers, the partnership was unilaterally broken: the Germans stopped servicing their own diagnostic equipment. For example, Bosch scanners, which are used in many services to locate problems with a car, are no longer updated without explanation.

The huge market, the constant demand, and the contract finally concluded were insufficient arguments to continue the cooperation. Politics took the lead, leaving a large number of entrepreneurs without tools. Honestly? No. Legal? Especially not! However, like any coin, this approach has a downside: all the exhortations about the need to use only licensed branded equipment, while respecting the rules of the copyright holder, are no longer relevant on a huge piece of land between Estonia and Mongolia. Welcome to a world where copyright is no longer worth anything because the author himself does not adhere to the gentlemen’s agreement.

What will come of it? Yes, nothing special: for a fairly acceptable amount, which, by the way, quickly pays for itself, the place of German brand equipment will be taken by a Chinese analogue, which is cheaper, simpler and does not entail any restrictions. “Launch” is bought on the market for 25,000 – 45,000 rubles, despite the fact that the price includes bases with updates for many years. And we keep working, swearing every time the logo of the German giant, crooked and sun-bleached, floats by.

Everything is clear with Bosch, something else is important here: a powerful precedent has been set that will affect absolutely everyone. And today, when relations with Russia are toxic, and tomorrow, when it will be necessary to establish ties. Because the exit always costs one ruble, but the entrance back already five. Don’t the Germans understand this?
