Winter for sedans and other “puzoterok” is not the best time. In severe frosts, plastic parts become brittle, and even snowdrifts from hard compacted snow can be a cruel joke. The result is a torn trunk from the engine bay or a large crack in the fender liner. It would seem – a trifle. But in fact, this can cause big trouble, which the AvtoVzglyad portal talks about.
This winter has already put motorists to the test. For example, snowfalls brought high mountains of snow porridge to the city. It’s simple – tractors swept snowdrifts from the sidewalks on the road, but they did not have time to remove them. So even all-wheel drive crossovers skidded on the street. Another problem arose during the thaw: the parapets became stiff. For two-wheel drive vehicles with low ground clearance, such conditions are dangerous, as you can split the bumper or tear off the plastic skirt underneath.
However, the main problem is that it is really possible to pull out the compound anther with the “meat” that protects the engine bay from dirt or get a big crack in the fender liner. At first glance it is not too bad, because the car can drive normally and there is no serious damage to the units. But it is not necessary to relax, because troubles will certainly make themselves felt in the future.
The fact is that without anther, dirt intensively flies into the engine compartment. This is especially true of the drive belt, which is subject to wear not only on the belt itself, but also on the roller. As a result, the guides begin to wedge, and the belt gradually becomes covered with cracks. The result is aging of materials and the breaking of a valuable consumable with all its consequences. And if the lumps also hit the timing drive, it can also break, and this will inevitably lead to the “death” of the engine.
Let’s not forget about the intercooler radiator. Designers often put it in the most “dirty” place anyway, and it begins to be covered with a hard “sheath” of sewage. And then there is the lack of protection against dirt. This can lead to violations of the temperature regime and overheating of the power unit. Even in winter, when the car is stuck in traffic.
A tear in the fender liner allows access to the brake “machine” and CV joint boot. Dirt and stones bombard the inside of the disc and deep grooves appear on it. As a result, braking becomes worse, and when you press the pedal, the steering wheel begins to “knock”. Well, the CV joint “chewing gum” simply breaks, because salt baths are contraindicated for it.
The excess of dirt can cause the pump to seize. It all depends on the design of a particular engine. The lower the water pump is, the worse. The fact that with its breakdown the engine will also “die”, the AvtoVzglyad portal wrote more than once.
