Betrayal of Volkswagen, breakthrough of LADA and new fines for drivers: results of the week

New Year is always about summarizing and making ambitious plans. Therefore, the first week of 2023 was mainly marked by the results of the study of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) and the loud statement of AVTOVAZ – that the Volga residents are preparing a whole range of new products. However, there were other events that the AvtoVzglyad portal talks about in a video review.

AEB listed the Russian sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles for 2022: dealers sold 687,370 cars, the market fell by 59% compared to the 2021 results. The products of LADA, Kia, Hyundai, GAZ and Renault were the most in pull. And if the French are not counted (after all, they have already officially said goodbye to us), Chery closes the top five.

AVTOVAZ will certainly continue to dominate. Especially considering that the people of Togliatti are preparing several surprises at once: three crossovers of classes B +, C and D (remember, there have never been any crossovers in the LADA line), as well as a compact (read – budget) sedan. But the Chinese, who are going to settle in the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, which left after the departure of the Japanese to the domestic giant, will help the Volga residents with these cars.

Speaking of the Chinese. The first “heavenly” premiere in 2023 took place at Chery – this company launched sales of the Tiggo 7 Pro crossover with the Max prefix. We did not wait for all-wheel drive, but the novelty boasts rich equipment (LED optics, a panoramic roof, all-round visibility, a full “winter package” are already offered in the database) and a refreshed appearance.

Meanwhile, the Chinese rejoice, the Europeans upset. We are now talking about the Germans from Volkswagen, who have limited access to their service programs for Russian dealers. What does this mean for the average consumer? Serious problems can arise when repairing cars, and the work itself is likely to increase significantly in price. Although Volkswagen did not officially announce its withdrawal from the country, unlike that same Mercedes, which did the same.

However, the past week will be remembered not only for the betrayal – and you cannot call it otherwise – Volkswagen, but also for another fine from the cameras for automatic photographic fixation of violations. From January 11, the complexes can “issue” orders to drivers who throw garbage out of their car windows. The sanctions are severe, although real punishments are still a long way off.

And more about the main automotive events of the outgoing week – in the video overview of the AvtoVzglyad portal, which you can view here.
