According to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, sales in the Russian car market with regard to 2021 have “sunk” by almost 1,000,000 cars. At the same time, the classification in the sales figures has also changed. If the Japanese brands have not gone anywhere, the Korean brands still cling to the consumer and offer proven products at relatively affordable prices. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out which “Koreans” are actively buying our compatriots.
The best-selling foreign car in the Russian market was sold last year in the period from January to December with a circulation of almost 25,000 cars. In the context of an ongoing crisis and sanction pressure, this is a very valuable indicator. A year earlier, the Kia Rio was bought in Russia by 83,000 people. Further – less!
Just over 18,000 new owners were found by the “related” Hyndai Solaris, which managed to sell its 43,000 cars less than the Koreans in 2021. However, the model confidently took fifth place in the sales ranking of all cars sold in our market last year.
The once bestseller among foreign crossovers in Russia has made way for the Chinese Haval Jolion. 16,577 buyers gave their choice for the Korean SUV. For comparison: in 2021 the model sold more than 68,000 units. As they say, feel the difference.
The compact “Korean” far left the Chinese Geely Coolray in sales, taking only 15th place in the ranking of the most popular cars in Russia. According to the 2022 results, the model has been bought by almost 9,000 consumers, which is the same 9,000 fewer cars than were sold in 2021.
It’s even worse for the once incredibly popular Kia Sportage crossover, which was chosen by just 8,300 buyers. Meanwhile, a year earlier, the model won the recognition of 25,000 people. The result is deplorable, as we see, there is.
This crossover also managed to overtake the Chinese with their Haval F7. If at the end of 2021 Tucson was bought by more than 11,000 Russians, then last year – only 7,000.
However, the situation with Cerato is much worse, which managed to charm just over 5,500 Russian customers. Even the Chinese Geely Atlas Pro surpassed the Korean passenger car, finding 1,500 additional owners. Meanwhile, Kia was able to build almost 13,000 vehicles of this model in 2021. Today it occupies the penultimate line in the TOP-25 of the most “running” cars in our market.
As already mentioned, it is much worse for the “Japanese”, who are about to completely fly out of the “hit parade”, leaving the consumer with only a sad reason for nostalgia.
