A sad figure for the entire Russian car market was published by the Vladivostok Customs Service. The boom in imports of used cars from Asian countries into our country in 2022 broke all records. The AvtoVzglyad portal publishes interesting statistics.

Customs summarized the results of the past year and announced: imports of used cars through the port of Vladivostok increased by 72% compared to 2021. In 2022, more than 197,000 used cars were imported into Russia through the company. The agency reports that the lion’s share of this falls on Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Honda, Subaru and Suzuki. The minority are South Korean cars – Hyundai and Kia.

Recall that last year AVTOVAZ was able to sell only 188,645 units of its products. Despite the fact that total sales in Russia did not even reach 700,000 units. Against this background, the volume of imports of foreign passenger cars allows us to speak of it as a more than important channel for the supply of cars to the Russian Federation.

Note that we also imported cars from Kazakhstan last year. There is no public access to exact data on deliveries along this route: our customs authorities have not yet shared such statistics. Nevertheless, we can confidently talk about tens of thousands of vehicles entering the domestic market from this Central Asian republic in 2022.

According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and a number of experts, the volume of the Russian new car market in 2023 will be at the level of 800,000-900,000 units. That is, at best, it will grow by 200,000 units compared to 2022. This means that the situation on it will not fundamentally change, and “beushki” from abroad will remain in demand as much as now. That automatically means an even greater intensification of their imports to Russia this year.
