AVTOVAZ revealed plans to produce cars at the former Nissan plant

If in 2023 the former Nissan plant produces a small batch of 10,000 LADA cars, then the volume will grow to 50,000-70,000 cars in a few years. Such figures were announced at the first meeting in a new role by the curator of the regional branch of SoyuzMash in St. Petersburg and the president of AVTOVAZ Maxim Sokolov.

At a meeting in the northern capital, Mr. Sokolov confirmed that AvtoVAZ will restart the former Nissan plant in the second half of the year. As originally planned, no more than 10,000 cars will roll off the assembly line by the end of 2023 – the volume depends on “the demand dynamics of the Russian car market”. And if there is a “positive trend” by 2025-2027, it will grow to 50,000 – 70,000 units.

Initially, of course, cars will be assembled using the “screwdriver” method. Localized small-scale production (CKD) will be in place by 2025 or 2026. And with the components will help those domestic companies that previously supplied the St. Petersburg plants of Toyota, Hyundai and the same Nissan with parts.

Only the question of the cars themselves remains open – what exactly does AVTOVAZ plan to produce at the plant located in the city on the Neva? The Volzhans do not answer him, although something is already known.

— So far it is premature to say anything, because to begin with we must at least discuss all the conditions with our future colleagues and sign all relevant documents. At the same time, I would like to note that we will develop competencies and our own engineering, opening new horizons, as our slogan actually sounds. I will say one thing: we are going to segments C and D,” Dmitry Kostromin, vice president of sales and marketing of JSC AVTOVAZ, told the AvtoVzglyad portal in an exclusive interview.
