Why it’s dangerous to mess with a “warranty” on a car from an insurance company

It is better not to conclude a contract with an insurance company for the “warranty repair” of a passenger car. This opinion was expressed by experts at the online conference of the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Insurance companies take advantage of the problems that Russian car owners have recently experienced with warranty repairs of their cars and offer them some kind of service. As part of this, the motorist purchases an insurance policy, according to which the insurer undertakes to carry out warranty repairs on the customer’s car within a certain period of time.

– We must be aware that the insurance is primarily intended to make money from the car owner, and not to make his life carefree. Therefore, as a rule, the “warranty” policy costs well – 1-1.5% of the price of the car per year. In most cases, this money is more than enough to pay the owner for any repairs to his car for a year, says Sergey Pigolkin, founder of the online auction CarClick.ru.

– In order to minimize payments to the customer “under warranty”, insurers introduce cumbersome clauses and conditions into contracts. In this way they set a limit on the maximum possible repair costs. If exceeded, the customer will have to pay extra. Or they provide a franchise: repairs for less than, say, 30,000 rubles are not covered by insurance. Either the “warranty” does not work during the first and last months of the contract between the car owner and the insurer, – explains car expert Sergey Burgazliev.
