Dmitry Mordkovich/Ivana Bezdenezhnykh — young promising crew, bronze medalist of the Russian Rally Raid Championship, Silk Way 2022 marathon participant and the crew of Sergey Karyakin/Anton Vlasyuk — the most experienced athletes, silver medalists of the Dakar 2020- marathon in the T3 standings, several participants and winners of international races. At the beginning of the third day, the difference between them was only three minutes! Karjakin tried to catch up, won back a little, but this was not enough, and Dmitry Mordkovich’s crew became the first both in the absolute and in the T3 category.
– The test sections of the last day were very interesting, the roads are excellent, – rally winner Dmitry Mordkovich comments on the race. – The track is diverse: somewhere there is snow and good grip, somewhere it is very slippery, there are many running segments of different levels, reminiscent of Karelian tracks. We won because we did a lot for such a result: we trained for a long time, prepared a new car. And it turned out a kind of “cocktail of success”: a team, a navigator, coaches! ..
The winners received another prize: the crew received a certificate for participation in the Silk Way Rally 2023, which will be held from July 6 to 15 along the Kazan-Moscow route by 13 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Vladimir Vasiliev took the lead in six of the nine sections (!) of the sections, but did not win. And Sergei Karyakin, who took second place, did not lose heart:
– “Northern Forest-2023” left the most positive impressions. It’s really cool that we have rallies like this. Thanks to the opponents for a very serious match: I really enjoyed the fight. According to the results, we have “silver”. Deserved and fun!
There was an intrigue in the ranking of T2 “Production” cars, in which six strong teams took part. On the final day, Anton Melnikov/Anton Nikolaev and Andrey Sushentsov/Alexander Shchanov were separated by just 14 seconds. Andrey and Anton Dinaburg’s crew were a minute off the leaders. The outcome of the battle was determined by the final kilometers. Dinaburgs grabbed a stranglehold and managed to take second place from Sushentsov. And in the Raid Sport category, first place was won by the crew of Konstantin Ivanov and Alexander Gorkov on Toyota LC 200.
– Baja “Northern Forest-2023” is completed, – summarized the results of the race, the head of the GAZ Reid Sport team Vyacheslav Subbotin. – We have second place in the T1 category and seventh in the absolute. This result was achieved by the crew of Alexander Rusanov and Alexei Maltsev. The guys went very well, and not in the most easy conditions: the paths cleared in the snow are too narrow for sports GazelNNs. In order not to lose speed, I had to rely on the snow-ice parapet at high speed and “dive” in turns. It looks scary from the outside. But this is the highest level of pilots!
– The second crew – Alexei Ignatov / Evgeny Pavlov – drove a new sports car with a Cummins 2.8 ISF Euro-6 engine, – continues Mr. Subbotin. – The first participation in a serious sports competition. A diesel engineer came with us and during test drives they seemed to find the optimal settings. Well done prologue. But on the second day, problems began with the turbine, which could not withstand extreme sports loads. Due to breakdowns, our crew – a clear leader in the “Raid sport” class – rolled back and could not claim any prizes.
Work with the engine continued – day and night. But even on the last day of the race it was not possible to achieve an ideal result – the pilot could not get full throttle. As a result, on a very difficult track, Alexei Ignatov not only followed the road, but also constantly monitored the instrument readings and determined the optimal driving mode accordingly. On the third day we ended up in the middle of the standings. And as a result – the fourth in the group. Yes, the result is not so hot, because we are used to victories. But we have gained new experience and we will overcome this new engine – we will study, analyze, adjust and reconfigure. And let’s get results!
The next stage of the championship will take place in April in Astrakhan – “Kagan’s Gold”. This race is considered the most difficult – sand and extremely difficult, hard routes. So today we rest, and tomorrow we start work and begin to prepare for Astrakhan. A lot has to be done…
