Summarizing the results of the past year, the Japan Used Car Exporters Association (JUMVEA) announced that more than 213,500 used cars will be brought to Russia from the Land of the Rising Sun by 2022. This is 32% more than in 2021. However, according to representatives of the organization, volumes are now starting to decline.
The Japanese Association of Exporters of Used Cars noted that off-road vehicles are most in demand among Russian buyers – in particular, cars from the Toyota Land Cruiser family. However, the representatives could not answer the question of the reasons for the growing popularity of this and other “used” cars. They only suggested that this could be due to the vehicle’s good technical condition and low mileage, TASS writes.
At the same time, it is curious that after a noticeable increase in export volumes at the end of 2022, at the beginning of 2023 these same volumes began to decline. But the association did not even give approximate figures. They did not even begin to express their assumptions about the reasons for the decline in sales of used cars from Japan in Russia.
We add that Japanese exports to our country fell overall by 30% last year – the sanctions are to blame. The auto segment also suffered from political games: the delivery of new cars stopped, their assembly in Russian factories stopped. And two companies – Nissan and Toyota – said goodbye to the domestic market altogether.
