Google has patented a technology that makes it physically impossible for a driver to violate the rules for using a cell phone while driving. The new technology will be extended to virtually all types of wearable gadgets, including smart glasses and watches. Using the sensors of the device itself, the “brain” independently determines whether the owner is driving a vehicle or, for example, is a passenger. And that goes for driving almost any vehicle: from cars and bicycles to motorcycles and even helicopters. When the vehicle starts moving, the sensors report this to the program. After that, it blocks access to the smartphone’s screen until the vehicle stops. The authors of the idea stipulate that the gadget can sometimes be used on the go, for example, for navigation. The device will still show this kind of information on the display.
Note that these kinds of limiting features can already be found in Android Auto’s arsenal, for example. To activate them, the smartphone must be connected to the vehicle’s operating system. Autoevolution believes that the introduction of new Android auto locks will help drivers become less distracted from driving by text messages and infotainment resource manipulations.
