Will Russia be left without Renault cars?
Renault headquarters will soon transfer the AVTOVAZ shares to a new owner. At the same time, the fate of the Renault brand itself remains unclear. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out whether the French brand is ready to maintain its presence in the Russian market, despite pressure from European politicians and the public.

So far, the only source of at least some reliable information is a confused statement from the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov. So, according to a federal official, the now inactive Renault plant in Moscow, where the French company is the sole owner, will be handed over to city authorities.

Under what conditions this process will take place, Mr. Manturov did not specify. But most likely, the parties are preparing a fictitious deal “for one ruble”, which will follow the same scenario as the transfer of AVTOVAZ shares to the state research center NAMI.

There is no talk of resuming production of crossovers Arkana, Duster and Kaptur. Moreover, the minister, who was ahead of the end of the negotiations, even hinted that the former Avtoframos (now the site is called Renault Russia) will be useful for assembling other cars.

However, in the words of the speaker, there is a degree of ignorance or cunning. The Moscow authorities have long been monitoring factory sites for real estate development, and it is absurd to produce cars here instead of Renault. After all, the aforementioned AVTOVAZ is full of underutilized capabilities and the labor force is much cheaper.

By the way, about AVTOVAZ. They were ready to start production of the latest Logan and Sandero this summer. But whether they will launch now is a big question. But for both cars, especially for Russia and the countries of the customs union, they even drew an original appearance …

In general, the whole situation surrounding the French brand can be accurately described in one sentence: “it was written on the water with a pitchfork.” Only one thing is clear. All these pseudo-business transfers are aimed at preserving the Russian market and assets, but avoiding criticism from the European Union.
