Moskvich expands its lineup, AvtoVAZ revives an old engine, the Chinese lower prices: results of the week

The most important car news of the past week? AVTOVAZ retains the 90 hp junior eight-valve engine in the LADA Vesta engine range. pp., Moskvich will expand its model line with another crossover and a sedan, production of cheap Chinese cars will begin near Bryansk, and NAMI will become the new owner of the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg. Learn more about these and other major industry events from the past few days in the video summary of the AvtoVzglyad portal.

AVTOVAZ rejoiced this week with two good news at once. First, LADA representatives said they planned to leave a “temporary” eight-valve engine in the Vesta NG line: it will not be removed from the range even when other more powerful engines are “registered” under the bonnet of the flagship. Secondly, the people of Volga announced the start of sales of the Niva Bronto, an SUV adapted for extreme off-road driving.

The revived Moskvich brand is also actively working on expanding the model range. So, recently it became known that two more cars will complete the lineup: a crossover and a sedan larger than the Moskvich-3, they will most likely receive the names Moskvich-5 and Moskvich-6. As for the timing of the production launch, this is the fourth quarter of this year. But no technical details yet, unfortunately no.

And how are things going at other car assembly locations – which are still owned by foreign companies? It turned out that Skoda is already very close to handing over Russian assets to a local buyer. According to the chairman of the board of the Czech company Klaus Zellmer, the car manufacturer will certainly not resume its activities in Russia in the foreseeable future. Just like Toyota, it seems. Her St. Petersburg business may be acquired by NAMI.

It is still unclear who will take over the vacant capacities. On the other hand, it is already known that the production of budget “heavenly” sedans will be launched near Bryansk, Alexei Podshchekoldin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BN-Motors Group of Companies, told AvtoVzglyad in an exclusive video -interview. Yes, the Chinese again. By the way, several new products from China have officially entered the domestic market at the same time this week: Geely Monjaro, Tank 300 and Kaiyi E5.
