Kia and Hyundai owners are invited back to the car service due to fire risk

0

In August last year, the Koreans announced a large-scale recall of a number of their models due to the risk of fire caused by a short circuit in the towbar wiring harness. It seems that Hyundai and Kia have decided to be on the safe side by starting an extra service campaign.

If just under 300,000 car owners were invited to technical centers in the summer of 2022, the current recall would affect another 550,000 cars. Among them are crossovers Hyundai Palisade and Santa Fe, Kia Carnival and Kia Telluride and Hyundai Santa Cruz, which are not officially presented in our market.

During an organized check, the Koreans found insufficient watertightness on one of the trailer connection modules – if moisture gets on the board, a short circuit can occur. And this, as you might guess, threatens to cause a fire. Let’s say more: several cases of car ignition have already been recorded, as well as dozens of precedents involving water damage to contacts.

Service center specialists replace the wiring for free and integrate an additional fuse into the car. In the meantime, car owners of the mentioned models, produced between 2019 and 2023, are advised not to park their “fire trucks” next to other vehicles and near residential buildings.
