5 most dangerous used cars on the Russian market
You can now find many different cars in the secondary market. Among them are cars of domestic brands, cheap “Chinese”, as well as “folk” foreign cars, queues for which have recently formed. The problem is that a rare available “beushka” in that case can save the driver from serious injury. Five models that have passed crash tests in their time are in the review of the AvtoVzglyad portal.

The safety of a particular vehicle can be judged by the results of crash tests – we’ll focus on that. Let’s start with “our brands”, where AVTOVAZ products dominate the show. And the independent testing on the NAMI test site was conducted by our colleagues at AutoReview.

We will not dwell in detail on the “classics”. And it is so obvious that, for example, the body of the “seven” is folded like cardboard, catastrophically reducing the living space. It’s scary to imagine an accident happening to a used one, where rust has eaten through the power elements. But there are many such combat sedans on the road.

The Niva turned out to be better: after a frontal collision, the sills almost did not sag, that is, the front part of the body does not absorb energy due to programmed deformation. The spare wheel, fixed under the hood, also contributed to this. The result – the whole severity of the collision fell on the electric “cage” of the cabin, where the driver comes in the face with a steering wheel with a half-ton load. The result is 0 points. However, it is difficult to expect otherwise from an SUV that came on the market in 1977. But after all, it is still produced with minimal modifications.

Chevrolet Niva (now Niva Travel) scored no less than 1.6 points. And here the greatest danger threatens the driver’s legs – during the test, the floor parted along the welds, and the pedal unit was pressed into the passenger compartment. The front panel also turned out to be traumatic, but not everything is so bad. In terms of passive safety, ‘our brand’ not only surpassed the ‘classics’, but also Chinese ‘boxes on wheels’ such as Chery Amulet and Geely Otaka.

Since we are talking about products from China, let’s remember the affordable hatchback Lifan Smily – it was tested in South America according to the Latin NCAP method. The conditions are standard – 64 km / h, a breakable barrier with an overlap of 40%. As a result, the body was formed, and the steering column moved into the saloon to the headrest of the seat. This is certain death for the driver.

There the Chevrolet Aveo turned out to be slightly stronger. For the head-on collision, the “American” deserved a “steering wheel”. Judging by the report, acceptable protection was only installed on the front passenger’s right shin. But there are still a lot of these sedans on our roads.

The results of the American Institute IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are also interesting. For example, one of his tests literally failed such a bestseller as the first generation Hyundai Solaris. The doll’s head slid out of the airbag and hit the dashboard, and his legs were trapped by the bent metal. That is, the risk of serious injury is very high. And in Russia, too, there are enough of these cars: both in taxis and in private dealers.
