Korean or Japanese, German or American – Russians want to exploit foreign cars, although this has become difficult lately. Service is more or less adjusted, thanks to parallel import, but the repair is a disaster. Some details take months to find. And the hardest part is with the little things that have not been imported too often and have now completely disappeared from the shelves.
Finding a type of fastener or a specific bolt is an adventure. And the turner, who has already gathered a whole queue at the door of his workshop, will certainly ask a fortune for the manufacture of the part. And then – only if there is a familiar turner at hand. What now? Restore what you own.
It is not easy to imagine that a rusty piece of iron can shine again. A brush and a sandblaster are not options, you do more harm with them. So another means is needed – simple and cheap. Something that allows you to restore and reuse small fasteners. And it is! Its composition was actively used in the days of developed socialism, when it was even more difficult to find a spare part than now. Yes, everything new is a well-forgotten old.
So, in order to restore any rusty and terrible fastener, be it a bolt, nut, screw, complex washer, bracket or something else, it is enough to go to the pharmacy and look into the neighboring supermarket. We take a couple of bottles of hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacist (24 rubles for 40 ml or 40 rubles for 100 ml), and from the seller in the supermarket – citric acid in bags (13 rubles for 10 g). And it is better to have several at once, so as not to get up twice.
We stir the resulting medicine into any container, which later it will not be a pity to throw into a big spring fire, and dip into it our “rust lump” – the one that used to be an integral part of the dear family transport. Precious, I note, without quotes, as owning a personal car is becoming a luxury again… But back to the topic.
You should not expect an instant result, but after 8-12 hours the chemistry will do its job: the fasteners will be miraculously cleaned. At the end of the procedure, it is worth rinsing and processing the “result obtained”, and then return it to its place, not forgetting to lubricate and treat it with special compounds.
Unfortunately, you will have to get used to this, because now the ability to drive your own car is associated with a large number of such life hacks. And it would be good to know them: otherwise gray hair and an empty wallet are guaranteed.
