The government approved the sale of the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga

The deal on Avilon’s takeover of the Volkswagen production site was approved by the government’s foreign investment control committee. This gives reason to assume that after some time the assembly of machines at the Kaluga plant will resume.

That the company now has a new owner, Vedomosti reports, citing its own sources. However, both the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Volkswagen declined to comment on the current situation.

Avilon also does not give substance to its plans for the further development of the site. There are only rumors that some models will be produced in Kaluga under the Exeed or Chery brand. Others argue that Jetta crossovers will appear. Recall that the Germans from Volkswagen created this brand specifically for China.

In early spring, several companies claimed the plant, including AFK Sistema. And later, the GAZ Group filed two lawsuits against VW. True, the court did not satisfy them and lifted the arrest, paving the way for the sale of the asset to be completed.

We do not exclude that Nizhny Novgorod will agree with Avilon and implement a project to revive the Soviet brands Volga and Pobeda, as proposed by Austrian businessman Siegfried Wolf. Although, of course, this is highly unlikely.
