CVT transmission is considered one of the most “soft” transmissions. The AvtoVzglyad portal talks about an unexpected solution to the problem of a “dead” variator.

In specialized service stations, they can now treat most variator ulcers. Leakage of oil seals, wear of solenoids, valve body, tapered roller bearings, problems with electronics (electronic module board, speed, pressure or temperature sensors), damage to the pump, bushings – all this is eliminated without much effort by replacing defective parts with new ones . It is worse if, in addition to the above problems, a chain (or belt) with cones also becomes unusable. Such problems can no longer always be solved without major financial costs, since the repair actually turns into the installation of a new variator. And then it comes down to sending the whole mechanism to scrap.

On the other hand, there is a separate category of car owners who “don’t trust” CVTs, calling them the weak link in any car’s powertrain. Indeed, the classic “automatic” torque converter is not without reason considered less capricious and more durable compared to the variator or “robot”. The latter are less likely to withstand extreme operating conditions, for example a car slipping on ice or in mud. The classic “machine” tolerates such bullying much more easily.

Why this excursion into KP’s equation? And to the fact that if the variator of your car has rested in Bose and you want to get rid of its weaknesses once and for all, here is an option for you – replace it with a normal “automatic”!

Some transmission repair shops offer a similar service. Let’s make a reservation that the possibility of replacing the variator with a normal automatic transmission does not exist for all cars, but especially for Japanese ones. And also for some models produced by the Renault-Nissan alliance.

You can put “automatic” on Toyota Corolla, Toyota Auris, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Verso, Nissan Juke, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Qashqai, Nissan Tiida, Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Note, Nissan Cube, Nissan Ad, Renault Megan, Renault Kapture , Renault Sandero, Renault Fluence, LADA Vesta, LADA XRAY. The fact is that different types of gearboxes for the above models have been produced and are produced by the same manufacturers – Aisin, Jatco. It is not surprising that their variators and “machines” are united for the same models.

Prices for new gearboxes sometimes exceed 300,000 rubles. Therefore, the so-called contract units are an adequate alternative to them – sorted at the factory. Their quality and reliability are usually not much different from comparable new units. But due to the “stigma” of a second-rate quality, they cost significantly less than the “new”. Because of this, the cost of replacing the variator with an “automatic” now varies between 110,000 and 150,000 rubles. This is on a turnkey basis. Not the cheapest fun. But it’s worth it – to give that kind of money for a normal tenacious automatic transmission instead of a sissy CVT!
