Volkswagen stopped assembling cars in Russia for a long time

A source from the AvtoVzglyad portal reported that Volkswagen has extended the production stoppage of the Nizhny Novgorod conveyor, where the Skoda Octavia, as well as the Volkswagen Taos and Skoda Karoq crossovers, are produced until September. According to our information, a similar decision has been made regarding the company’s Kaluga plant.

Recall that the Gorky Automobile Plant produces Skoda and Volkswagen cars on a contract basis. In addition, the models are manufactured according to the full CKD cycle, which includes welding, double priming, anti-corrosion treatment and body painting, as well as the subsequent installation of the drive unit, glass bonding and interior finishing.

In Kaluga, where Volkswagen has its own factory, full-cycle technology is also in use. There, before the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, related liftbacks Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Polo were made.

Until now, the workers of both companies were, in official terms, “at rest”, that is, they received half their wages. Now this “simple” will last at least until the fall.

In general, the last bastion of stability that continued to produce cars, despite the chaos around, the shortage of components and other problems, was the factory of the Chinese brand Haval, located near Tula. But now this stronghold also surrendered to the mercy of superior forces.
