The Lessonia project will form a satellite constellation
The FAB project is to acquire a constellation of low orbit satellites. With a dual purpose, they are aimed at meeting the operational needs of the Armed Forces, the Center for Control and Operation of the Amazon Defense System (CENSIPAM), as well as government agencies.
Lessonia’s visualization system uses an active detection sensor capable of generating very high resolution images that can be obtained at any time of the day or night, regardless of weather conditions, when the emitted signal crosses the clouds. Thus, continuous monitoring of areas of interest in Brazil is possible.
The resulting images will be used to support the fight against drug trafficking and illegal mining, update mapping products, determine the navigability of rivers, monitor fires, monitor natural disasters, monitor the exclusive economic zone (ZEE), and support surveillance and border control, among other possibilities. The Lessonia project is part of the Strategic Space Systems Program (PESE). Run by the Combat Aircraft Program Coordinating Committee (COPAC), it provides dual products (civilian and military) for integrated use for the benefit of the entire Brazilian society.
In an effort to fully implement the strategic program for space systems, in the future it is also planned to implement a complex of satellites of domestic production for obtaining optical images. This will complement the capabilities of the Ministry of Defense in the field of visualization of the national territory, thereby satisfying all the requirements of the government.
