A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) report recently reported that a delivery drone from Amazon (MK27) fell and called Fire in the eastern US state of Oregon. According to reports, as a result of an accident during a test flight that occurred in June last year, several hectares of the field caught fire.

The federation said in the document that the drone’s engines failed, causing it to free-fall 160 feet (48 meters) in place. When dropped, the lithium battery caused the equipment to catch fire on contact with the ground.
Although Amazon’s name was removed from the report, the FAA said the crash was linked to the MK27 drone, an experimental Amazon Prime Air delivery drone launched in 2013. The equipment went out of control on the wheat stubble, causing a fire.
Even though Prime Air was created nine years ago, there have been no commercial deliveries so far. By comparison, Google Wing drones have made over 100,000 deliveries.
Amazon’s statement
According to DroneXL, the company has revealed: “Prime Air’s top priority is safety. We conduct extensive testing to collect data that continually improves the security and reliability of our systems and operations. During these tests, our drones fly over sterile lanes to protect our employees from potential injury.”
The company also says: “We carefully follow the procedures for conducting flight tests and how we respond to any incidents. In this case, we carry out the test with the utmost care, as is customary in the aviation industry. No staff or community members were at risk and the team followed all relevant security procedures and reporting requirements.”
“Our focus remains on innovating on behalf of our customers and expanding safe and reliable services. In August 2020, we received our Part 135 Air Carrier certification from the Federal Aviation Administration—an important milestone that provides us with even more room to further improve our service.”
