Science is an amazing thing, and every day we see how movie-like events actually happen. This time the physicists were able create two time dimensionseven if one temporary thread is running.

SpaceX may use quantum technology to teleport data

Researchers are proving that the technology can be used with existing systems.

The feat was achieved by firing a sequence of laser pulses inspired by Fibonacci numbers to the qubits of a quantum computer. To better explain, the Fibonacci sequence is a sequence of integers, usually starting with 0 and 1, in which each subsequent term corresponds to the sum of the previous two.

The creation of two time dimensions is very important for the field, since the data stored in this “second time” is much better protected from errors than current methods of quantum computers. Error correction is one of the biggest challenges in quantum computing because the same phenomenon that gives qubits “superpowers” makes them extremely vulnerable to any environmental interference. In this new situation, the information in qubits remains undistorted for much longer, since they can remain in one or another time dimension.

Physicists were inspired quasicrystals, which have patterns that don’t fit together perfectly and never repeat. Working with a periodic laser pulse that alternates based on the Fibonacci sequence creates a two-dimensional pattern packed into one dimension and, in this spatial smoothing, two temporal symmetries.

Quantum reels could be the future of quantum computing

Tools created by researchers could be the key to larger quantum arrays

To test their calculations, the team used a 10-qubit quantum processor that fired laser light both periodically and using a sequence based on Fibonacci numbers. According to the results of the experiment, the edge qubits kept their data for about 1.5 seconds in the periodic test, but remained quantum throughout the entire time of the second experiment – about 5.5 seconds.

Of course, the results are already incredible at the moment, but the research is not finished yet. According to Philippe Dumitrescu, one of the people responsible for this creation, “we have this direct and incredible application, but we need to find a way to connect it with calculations. It’s an open issue that we’re working on.”
